Moleskin Sketch #29 Camp Bell
Another interesting camp site scene of a split rock and a micro valley in between. I enjoy imagining myself being ant-sized in some of these scenes and thinking about what that perspective might look like (I may start a series of drawings based off that at some point...).
Moleskin Sketch #28 Camp Bell
I picked this rock up at the water front and set it on a picnic table to draw. It was an interesting juxtapostion of textures.
Moleskin Sketch #27 Camp Bell
This sketch was a fun one that I was able to sink my teeth into a little bit more. It was some thin line and a carabiner hanging from a post in the climbing barn at camp. I enjoyed this one more because I've always been fascinated by and enjoyed tying knots. Even simple knots
Moleskin Sketch #26 Camp Bell
Yet another rushed sketch, this time of a rock poking up through the ground in the blacksmithing area. I had to set this one aside to help a scout who was having a rough emotional time during this program block.
Moleskin Sketch #24 Camp Bell
This was the base of a lovely maple tree right outside my tent, lots of personality. Many of my sketches from this week were a bit distracted and unfocused, and I frequently found myself having to set my pen down just as I was finally getting into the groove.
Moleskin Sketch #23 Camp Bell
This is the first sketch I did from my second week at camp with some of my boys. There was an interesting assortment of roots and rocks in our camp site, so while we were in "hurry up and wait" mode waiting for check in, I tried drawing a few of them. This sketch falls
It’s Plunger Monkey Dynamo Time #26
Stuff! And things! I say that quite a lot, actually. The Multi Purpose Novelty Squid (or MPNS) is a critter that first showed up on some envelope art (I think. I'd have to go dig through some old art to verify that, but it was either that or a card). I'm still coming up
Moleskin Sketch #22 Camp Carpenter 2016
This was my last sketch duing my stay at Camp Carpenter, 2016. It was a bit rushed, as we were in the nature program area, but the staff took the boys on a hike to the lake to collect "specimens". I'm trying not to think too long on the fact that I have one summer
Moleskin Sketch #21 Camp Carpenter 2016
There are some beautiful red pine trees bordering the sports field at camp. This one had some cool shadows falling on it in the morning, which I didn't quite capture fast enough in the quickly changing light.
Moleskin Sketch #20 Camp Carpenter 2016
There was no shortage of cool trees in our campsite, though we weren't there frequently enough for me to draw more than this one.
Moleskin Sketch #19 Camp Carpenter 2016
On the heals of my unfinished pinecone, I picked up another one at the sports field and got a little further on this one.
Moleskin Sketch #18 Camp Carpenter 2016
Just like last year, I picked up a pinecone in the handicraft program area, but ran out of time to finish it. Pinecones are fascinating and intricate marvels of nature.
