INKTOBER 2022 Day #29: UH-OH.

You know, it’s kind of shocking I’ve never paid homage to Looney Tunes in any of my previous Inktoberings. Aside from it being a staple of my childhood and having a not insignificant impact on my artistic sensibilities and sense of humor, PMD talking through signs was directly inspired by Wile E. Coyote (at least in the episodes that he didn’t talk). Given that PMD represents specific aspects of me, and I was influenced by Looney Tunes (among many other things) it’s also not hard to draw some comparisons between him and some of the Looney Tunes cast of characters

This illustration may look somewhat simple, but it actually took me quite a while. I wanted to get the look of Wile E. and the Road Runner right, and despite having watched hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of them over my lifetime, I’ve never drawn either of them. Plus, the figures were all relatively small on the page, so I had to ink with a fine tipped pen rather than my brush pen. This took longer in general, but the lines degraded when I erased the pencil, so I essentially inked this piece twice. I expected it might be the case, I’m not sure if it’s the ink in the brand of pen I use or if it’s because the lines I make with that pen tend to be very fine, but it’s happened before. I just didn’t expect it to be as big of a problem as it was this time.
