Project Description

INKTOBER 52 2023 Day #15: PROWL.

The original 1980s Transformers are the best Transformers, no question (and even though watching so many of my favorite Autobots die-especially Optimus Prime-was traumatizing, I’ll still argue that the 1985 animate Transformers The Movie is better than all the modern live-action versions). They were just such cool designs. Simple and understandable, not overly complicated and too visually busy to look at like the live-action versions. When I saw the prompt “prowl” coming up, I knew I had to do something with the Autobot of the same name. I grew up watching the cartoon, and the Marvel Comics Transformers was one of the first comic series I began collecting as a kid (starting with the early Dinobots issue. Who doesn’t love the Dinobots? Robots and dinosaurs? They couldn’t have been more up my alley). Prowl wasn’t necessarily my favorite, I never even had the toy (yes, I still have all my old Transformers, thanks to my wonderful parents), but I did love his design (especially those door-wings). Growing up I loved the whole giant robots genre, especially if they transformed. I’ve always been a creative/artistic person, but I have an analytical and more science-y side, too. I used to love the puzzle of transforming between robot and vehicle, how everything went together and moved, and I spent a great deal of my youth drawing and designing my own Transformers that could actually transform if I were ever able to build them. I think this is the first time I’ve had an excuse to pay homage to this particular creative property that was such a massive part of my growing up.
