Project Description

INKTOBER 2025 Day #18: DEAL.

“Props to all the comic book artists that draw Darth Vader all the time and make him look cool. I find his mask so difficult to draw. I’ve drawn the Dark Lord of the Sith several times over the years, and I always have to rely heavily on photo references that are very close to the angles I want to draw him from. The planes of his mask are just confusing to me for some reason. Add in the reflective surfaces and all the little details and my head starts to hurt.
I’ll make my obligatory comment about Star Wars being the single biggest creative influence/inspiration on me. I say it every time I make a reference to it, and I always make sure I squeeze in at least one every Inktober. It might be weird to say, but there likely wouldn’t be a Plunger Monkey without Star Wars.
Hm. On a slight tangent, I’m remembering I had some kind of ‘how to draw’ book when I was little (I received several for birthdays and other holidays once it was very apparent that art, and Star Wars, were a focus of mine). One of the sections was Darth Vader’s mask, which I have a random memory of drawing on a chalkboard we had stashed in the basement of my childhood home. Memories are weird. Now I’m wondering what book it was and if I still have it…”
