Project Description
INKTOBER 2025 Day #28: SKELETAL.
“I enjoy drawing anatomy, but that usually means muscles. I don’t spend enough time studying the underlying structures the muscles are connected to. It’s something that’s relevant to my interest in (and nerdiness about) working out and human movement. While I don’t spend nearly enough time doing drawing studies of skeletal and muscle structures, I have found some neat online resources with animated breakdowns of where specific muscle groups attach to the skeleton and how they move. It’s really helped me understand not just how I move athletically and how best to train those muscles and movements, but also my understanding of how to draw anatomy.
This prompt was essentially an excuse for me to do a skeletal study. I think just about everyone has a general understanding of what a skeleton looks like, there’s definitely some key landmarks that really stand out when you don’t represent them right, but there’s a lot of tricky nuances to the way things attach to one another. I have always thought it was neat when iconic characters have their skeletons revealed, especially the ones that are cartoony or not human. It grounds them in reality. Whenever I design a character, I give some thought to how their anatomy would work, what would their bones and muscles look like, just in case I ever had to draw that, but also so that they have a certain ‘realness’ and ‘aliveness’ to them.
Anyway, this was a fun challenge.”
