INKTOBER 2025 Day #15: RAGGED.
“I don’t remember the last time I thought about Raggedy Ann and Andy, so, uh, thanks Inktober? I’m reasonably certain I had a Raggedy Andy as a kid, and my older sister had Raggedy Ann. I’m not positive, though. I don’t remember if I found them as creepy back then as I do now, especially the animated versions (the only thing I remember about the cartoon is that it exists). I started reading about the history of the dolls/characters, but lost interest. I did learn that Raggedy Ann made her debut in 1918, and Andy in 1920, so the fact that anyone still knows about them means something. In some way I guess they are iconic, so I have to give them and their creator (whose name is apparently Johnny Gruelle) a lot of respect for gaining fame and entertaining generations. I’m not sure I understand the fascination and how it’s lasted so long, but either way, it’s admirable. I just wasn’t the right audience.
Hm. Maybe what I need to do to catapult PMD to such long-lasting stardom is make a ‘Raggedy Plunger Monkey’ or something…I mean, I have thought about a PMD stuffed animal before, which is basically the same thing as a ragdoll…I mean, who wouldn’t want a plush Plunger Monkey?”
Do you enjoy these silly pen and ink illustrations starring Plunger Monkey? Wish you had a whole book full of them to gaze at lovingly whenever you wanted? You’re in luck!
