Project Description

INKTOBER 52 2023 Day #17: MELT.

Fun fact: I’m actually related to the actress who played the wicked witch in The Wizard of Oz, Margaret Hamilton. Obviously I never met her, but, still a cool bit of family trivia.
The only thing my Brain did when I saw the prompt “melt” was shout “I’m melting! I’m melting!” over and over. Given the neat family connection, I decided I had to head in that direction. I didn’t want to draw a melted wicked witch, I kind of wanted to take a stab at drawing her face. Plus, I wasn’t sure PMD has it in him to actually dowse the witch with water…he’s just got the bucket for some incentive to get her on his side. And yes, he is dressed as one of the flying monkeys. I originally planned to hatch the witch’s whole costume to make it black, but I chickened out and was afraid of losing the details I had worked on. One of these days I’ll get bold enough to use large, abstract ink shapes to convey form and shadow, like Bill Watterson and the more standard, modern superhero comics.
