Project Description

I stuck with the ballpoint pen and Copic marker combo for quite a few of the portraits. I didn’t get around to working in the Multiliners somehow, but I wanted to. Perhaps with some stronger contour lines or something. I was also experimenting with how best to use the white lines. Occasionally a solid white blob worked, but sometimes I needed to do some contour style hatching. Sometimes it worked, a lot of times it didn’t. I realized I needed to think more about where I wanted my lightest lights to be in relation to the darkest darks and work out from there. Day 25 was an interesting camera angle and lighting situation, with some cast shadows from a window. For Day 26, I really wanted to draw the inside of my mouth. I don’t know why. This was another one where the photo reference was a little distorted because of how close I was to the lense, but I think I exaggerated it a bit too much in the drawing. My eyes are too far apart. Day 27 was another interesting photo with some cool lights and shadows. I was trying to hide areas of my head and body in the shadows, almost like the lighted shapes were growing out of the dark. Many of my Copics were drying up by this point, so the transitions aren’t as smooth as I would like. On Day 28, I was really searching for an angle I hadn’t done yet, something a little more unique an interesting. The answer: handstand.
