INKTOBER 52 2023 Day #38: HARVEST.

“Okay, this one is going to need a bit of an explanation. I know I try to steer clear of the obvious, but I think I’m nowhere near obvious this time. I had a hard time deciding what angle to come at this prompt from. I just wasn’t coming up with anything interesting. The definition wasn’t leading me anywhere, nor were any of the idioms or phrases I researched. I started looking at insects, because I know that bug many people think of as a spider and call a daddy long-legs is actually called a harvestman or something. I started thinking about what one might harvest. I briefly flirted with the idea of PMD harvesting a field of squid.
Then a lightbulb went off. In my perpetually-in-the-works graphic novel ‘Revery’, the main Cobbly character Adarax works as a ‘dream harvester’. It’s part of his job to venture into the Dream Fields to ‘harvest’ the orbs left behind from dreams. If the orb is harvested before it’s finished ‘ripening’ – which is a central part to the story – they still contain a great deal of energy and sometimes maintain a connection to the dreamer, which in this case would be me, hence Plunger Monkey showing up.
So yeah, harvest.”
