INKTOBER 52 2024 Week #11: RACCOON.

“The whole time I was working on this prompt, I kept thinking it was another repeat because I had drawn a ‘crab raccoon’ at some point. If you missed that and don’t know what the heck I’m talking about, years ago, my friend Jorj and I, after it came up that that’s what his kids called crab rangoons, challenged each other to draw a ‘crab raccoon’. Many years after that, I found an excuse to draw it again for an Inktober prompt. It was for ‘crabby’, though, not raccoon.
Anyway, yeah. PMD and a trash panda. I thought this was kind of fun. I almost tried to reference an old 80s cartoon called ‘The Raccoons’, which I had completely forgotten about and only remember that some of the characters had weirdly floppy snouts for some reason. I’m glad I went with this idea instead.
Being an outdoorsy, camping-type of guy, I’ve had a few run-ins with raccoons in my life. There was this one time at summer camp, when I was scoutmaster, I heard a lot of metal banging when I finally turned in for the night. At first, I thought it was the staff going around collecting the full trash bags, as the camp was fairly remote and prone to wildlife encounters (we had bear bins to store all our ‘smellables’). It was a bit more banging than I would have expected, but I opted not to investigate. In the morning, when one of the scouts went to deposit the breakfast trash into the barrel, he discovered a raccoon that had obviously spent the night. I’m not quite sure how he got in, but I’m guessing all the extra banging I heard was him trying to get out. I had visions of him jumping up and smacking his head on the underside of the lid. I like to think the banging stopped because he knocked himself out, rather than just giving up. I’m not sure what that says about my sense of humor.”
