Project Description

INKTOBER 2022 Day #4: SCALLOP.

Okay, I went a bit self-referential for this one. When I was significantly younger, I was in scouts. At some point, I learned a wacky tongue twister that really resonated with me. It begins “One hen, two ducks, three squawking geese, four limerick oysters…” and gets progressively weirder and more difficult to say. My friends in scouts and I would perform it at every campfire. When I earned my Eagle rank and aged out, I kind of forgot about it until I had my own kids who joined scouts. There I was, in front of a campfire again and someone asked if anyone had anything to contribute to that night’s program. My Brain woke up, the memories flooded back, and I performed the tongue twister for the first time in about twenty years. From then on I made it a point to teach it to my kids, and to all the scouts I worked with over the years as an adult volunteer, Den Leader, and Scoutmaster. After a little digging into the history (and copyright), I decided this…thing that I learned all those years ago was begging to be turned into an illustrated book, which I published in 2019 as 10 Things.
