Project Description

INKTOBER 2022 Day #5: FLAME.

The Flaming Plunger? The Flaming Monkey? There may be another PMD alter ego to explore here. Despite being a self-described “comic book nerd”, I’ve never read an issue of The Fantastic Four. That’s probably as criminal as not having ever read an issue of Batman or Superman. I was predominantly an X-books fan growing up. Actually, now that I think about it, right near the tail end of my collecting days (I much prefer graphic novels and a wider variety of genres these days), there was a crossover event in the X-books called Onslaught or something. One of the titles in the mix was Fantastic Four, I believe (this was back in 1999ish), so I guess I probably have read some FF books.

Either way, in spite of not being a direct fan, I’m well aware of the impact of those characters on the industry and the longevity of the title, so, I pay them-and Stan Lee-a debt of gratitude.

In hindsight, I really should have thought more about how to handle the back ground. As I entered the second hour of crosshatching, I realized there was a better solution that probably would have looked better, too. I’m also not terribly happy with the way I drew the flames themselves. It’s not an element I’ve really spent a lot of time drawing, and it’s clearly one I need to work on. Live and learn.
