It’s Plunger Monkey Dynamo Time #36
A nod to two bits of pop culture in this strip: Alien and The Incredible Hulk. I'm not sure exactly when the idea popped into my head for the carnivorous desert tacos to have burrito tongues (with teeth), but I thought it was hilarious. I think it was panel 3 that finally pushed me
PMD Selfie
I've long been wanting to do a mixed media experiment using ink, my Copic greyscale markers, water colors, and colored pencils. I've been a fan of other artists' use of similar media, but I've never really played around with it much myself. Around the time I was wanting to attempt something, I was basically not
It’s Plunger Monkey Dynamo Time #35
The problems compound. The camera angles in the first and last panels were tricky, and I'm not happy with them entirely, but this was a perfect example of me trying to force myself just to do it and keep moving forward. It's really hard not to obsess.
It’s Plunger Monkey Dynamo Time #34
That last panel basically explains everything and sets up most of the future events of the strip. I recently figured out how to tie it all in with something else, but that's going to stay under wraps for now. At least until I'm a little closer to being able to do something about it.
It’s Plunger Monkey Dynamo Time #33
Each of these panels took up a whole page, so I was able to "breath" more in my linework. It was around this time I discovered just how tedious it is to do even a little bit of stippling, though the result tends to be cool (especially when done a lot better than what
It’s Plunger Monkey Dynamo Time #32
Drawing the panels on a slightly larger scale allowed me to "breath" with my art and details. I've really been trying to experiment with line quality and thickness, using thicker, bolder lines for major shapes and contours while reserving thinner, finer lines for other details and hatching. I'm also playing with adding little jaggy
It’s Plunger Monkey Dynamo Time #31
I was getting unhappy with my ability to control the details when I was drawing 4 panels per sketchbook page. My first attempt to resolve the problem was to plan the panels better, but that was going to introduce it's own set of limitations. Shortly after this, I just switched to one giant panel per
Inktober 2016 Day 8
I'm behind on my 2016 Inktoberage. I'm trying to stick to drawing IPMDT panels for the month, but being that I'm behind, and being that I did this little pen sketch while chaperoning my youngest's field trip, I decided to count it. This was done at the Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum, which is a fantastic
Tablet Art: Teal-Crested Leopard Dragon
This was a drawing I did on my new Samsung tablet for my awesome wife's birthday (she loves dragons, this is currently her desktop wallpaper). I was really trying to push my boundaries and explore the possibilities of the tablet and Sketchbook Pro. This image sparked a larger idea that I hope to get to
Tablet Art: Grumpy Monk
I think I started this one in Art Flow, but after the Barfening I finished it in Sketchbook Pro. I was trying to see what I could do for textures and lighting effects with the apps. I'm not sure why he's grumpy.
Tablet Art: Angry PMD
Another early tablet drawing, started in Sketchbook Pro, then Art Flow, which barfed, so it was finished back in Sketchbook Pro. PMD is also expressing his frustrations with new technology.
Tablet Art: Surprised and Scared Toby
I started this drawing in Sketchbook Pro on my Samsung tablet, worked on it in Art Flow for a bit until that app barfed (which is a shame, because it was a cool app), then brought it back to Sketchbook to finish it off. This is pretty much how I look trying to learn new
