INKTOBER 2026 Day #3: MINIATURE.

“Honey, I shrunk the monkey.

Somewhat recently a memory resurfaced that I had very much forgotten. When I was a kid, we made two family trips down to Disney World. During the second trip, the MGM Studios park had opened (though it was before Star Tours was complete, so this Star Wars nerd was immensely bummed that I couldn’t go on the ride. I at least got to see some of the giant props they had out front, which was the closest thing to being in the Star Wars universe at the time). I remember waiting in line for a show that was in a big building (I want to say there was a mock ocean set pool thing out font). We were pretty close to the first in line, right near the door. While watching whatever was going on outside, a park staff member came up behind us and tapped my younger brother and I on the shoulder and asked if we wanted to be part of the show. I said no at first, thinking it was a joke or someone trying to embarrass me, but my parents understood it was a legitimate thing and made us follow the staff member into the building before the doors officially opened. Whatever happened next is a little fuzzy, but the end result is that my brother and I wound up on the back of a giant honey bee in front of a blue screen as part of the show demonstrating how they did the special effects for ‘Honey, I Shrunk the Kids’ (and yes, there are pictures). It was a pretty neat experience.”
