Project Description
INKTOBER Day #4: CACTUS.
“One of the many projects kicking around my Brain is a Plunger Monkey superhero universe. Admittedly, the whole idea is very Tick-like, which I love, but I’ll need to figure out how to make it unique. I have a soft spot for superhero comics. I read and collected them (I was a Marvel fan, mostly) for many years in my youth, which spawned a love of reading in general, and at one point drawing superhero comics was what I thought I wanted to do with my life. I still enjoy drawing and creating muscley characters in tights and capes with crazy abilities, so it’s no surprise I eventually created an alter-ego for PMD: The Masked Plunger. His abilities and backstory are still undetermined. His teammate here is Thunder Cactus, a completely random character I came up with during Inktober 2018. It was the last year before I started incorporating PMD and I had fallen way behind (big surprise), so I was just combining multiple prompts into a single drawing. Two of those prompts were ‘prickly’ and ‘thunder’, and thus Thunder Cactus was born. I can’t remember if I came up with an origin for him or not, but right now I’m thinking it’s something like a guy being lost in a desert near a nuclear bomb range and he hides behind a cactus during the blast but gets struck by lightning just as the radiation wave hits him. Or something. I’ll work on that.”
