Project Description

INKTOBER 52 2023 Day #3: SHADOW.

A little foreshadowing of the future for a young Toby Wan Kenobi…except not, like, all dark and evil. Yes, I realize that makes this a bit of a jumbled homage, but who cares? It’s Star Wars.

In case anyone missed it, I am a huge Star Wars fan. I consider it-all of it-to be the single greatest creative influence on my art. The movies, the shows, the comics, the novels, the games, and particularly all of the amazing concept art (which reminds me, I really need to find my Art of Star Wars books…) have always fired up my imagination and made me want to create. This illustration is a reference to one of the coolest movie posters of all time, which promoted Episode I: The Phantom Menace. It was very simple, but so powerful. I know any non-original trilogy movies get torn apart by critics and so-called “fans”, but I love them all. I particularly loved the prequels for showing the evolution of Anakin into Darth Vader, but also for expanding the universe, showing the last days of the Republic, a pre-Order 66 Jedi order (and of course a younger Obi-Wan), and producing a ton of art and imagination fuel for me. It’s kind of impossible for me to imagine what kind of a creator I would be today without the influence of Star Wars.
