INKTOBER 2026 Day #6: OGRE.
“Well, this one got out of hand. It took almost 16 hours, but it could have taken a lot less. Drawing a humorous interaction between PMD and Shrek would have been a much simpler drawing. Instead, I opted to reference my favorite fighting game franchise: Tekken. In the third installment of the game way back in 1997 (that doesn’t make me feel old at all), the final boss was a new character named Ogre. Actually, he was sort of two characters. There was the version that would have been quicker and easier to draw known as Ancient Ogre that was basically just a giant, green-skinned, bare-chested, muscley guy with some Aztec looking accessories like a helmet, a belt, and a shield. That was my original idea. However, when I sat down to put pencil to paper to sketch things out, I suddenly decided to go with his second form of True Ogre, which is this crazy, giant, double-mouthed, winged, bearded, be-horned, monstrosity with a bundle of snakes for a right arm. Battling him in the game was challenging at first because he was so much larger than any of the other characters.
Of course, if PMD was going to fight True Ogre, I had to Tekken-ify him a little, so I decked him out like one of the original characters Heihachi Mishima, sort of. Heihachi and his offspring used a style of karate, so I’ve always kind of enjoyed playing them as a karateka myself. They all kind of have wacky hair, with Heihachi’s pseudo-Wolverine look being the boldest.
I don’t play Tekken as much these days, but I still dream about PMD being added to the roster as one of the secret characters someday, kind of like Gon the dinosaur. I have a lot of fun ideas for Plunger Monkey as a video game in general, but a fighting game would be epic.”
