Project Description

I’ve long been wanting to do a mixed media experiment using ink, my Copic greyscale markers, water colors, and colored pencils. I’ve been a fan of other artists’ use of similar media, but I’ve never really played around with it much myself. Around the time I was wanting to attempt something, I was basically not in my studio for 10 years (due to raising kids as the stay at home dad). When I finally started spending more time making art again, I made the switch to digital, and the huge learning curve prevented me from exploring other areas. I finally decided the time was right to take a crack at it after teaching my youngest’s Cub Scout den how to work with water colors. This piece was a lot of fun, I’m bummed it’s “done”. I’ll definitely be doing another one sooner than later. The undertook the following steps: 1. pencil drawing, 2. inks (with brush and fine point pens), 3. Copic marker greyscale, 4. water colors, 5. colored pencils, 6. a few digital tweaks to make the final scan look a bit more like the actual piece, plus a nifty black border.
