Project Description

Since it was finally received, I can post this image I worked on a few weeks ago of a giant sequoia. It was a gift (in the form of a tshirt and a hoodie) for my tree-loving middle son.

I have always loved trees, particularly redwoods and giant sequoias. The fact that they are so massive and ancient seems almost magical to me. Ever since I was very young, I dreamed of living in a giant tree, either up in the branches and canopy like a short, hairless Wookie, or carving out the inside to turn it into a natural castle tower. Whenever I go hiking in the mountains, I’m on the lookout for the largest trees I can spot as much as I am aiming for the summit views. My middle son seems to have taken after me in that regard. He has spent countless hours reading about trees, trying to raise trees, “hunting” for trees on our property and during out wilderness adventures. In the fall of 2023, he headed off to college to study environmental science with a focus on forestry, and his long term plans involve moving to the west coast to live among the redwoods and giant sequoias. Hopefully someday he and I can share a view such as this together.
